Description
The Department of Biology is one of the main departments in the College of Education at Murda, playing a pivotal role in preparing qualified educational and scientific cadres in the field of life sciences. The department aims to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in various biology specializations, including cell biology, genetics, microbiology, botany, zoology, and ecology, with a focus on educational aspects and modern teaching methods.
The department's study system relies on theoretical courses supported by practical applications in laboratories, according to the college-approved study plan. Students are awarded a bachelor's degree upon successfully completing the study requirements. The department also emphasizes developing students' research abilities, enhancing scientific thinking, and preparing graduates capable of pursuing postgraduate studies or integrating efficiently into the fields of education and scientific work.

The department contributes to supporting the process of nation-building by preparing qualified cadres through educational programs and by developing graduates who are distinguished culturally, scientifically, in research, and professionally, in order to keep pace with labor market requirements. The department also seeks to improve and develop the quality standards of its programs through the continuous review of its plans, objectives, and mission, in order to keep up with ongoing changes and the needs of society.
Mission
Graduating qualified and well-trained personnel with a high scientific level and advanced research competence, in order to meet the needs of the labor market in the Municipality of Mizda and neighbouring areas for biology teachers, and to contribute to nation-building in the field of biology in particular and sciences in general, as well as to encourage scientific research among faculty members and students in the department to help keep pace with scientific progress.

These are clear objectives for the department, and can be rendered in formal English as follows:
- Preparing qualified cadres to meet the needs of society and state institutions for scientific and technical expertise in the field of life sciences, and to contribute to the development of scientific, health, and environmental institutions.
- Developing and updating scientific curricula in both their theoretical and practical components.
- Enhancing the scientific competence and performance of faculty members, researchers, and students.
- Adopting modern technologies in scientific laboratories.
- Finding solutions to contemporary environmental problems.
- Understanding and studying the prevalent disease-causing factors in our environment and society, and providing effective solutions for them.
- Cooperating with various state departments to improve health, environmental, industrial, and agricultural conditions by providing scientific expertise and research findings and translating them into practice.
- Working to create a work environment and relationships that strengthen the sense of belonging to the department, the college, and the community, and to entrench and disseminate the principles and concepts of quality among all members of the department.
